Doug Bychyk - Adult Champion for Active Edmonton
Over the course of the summer Doug was walking as much as possible. Doug travelled to Belgium during the first two weeks in September. On his trip he walked over 100 Km.
Shortly after Doug's return from his holiday in Belgium, Doug was offered and accepted the assistance of personal trainer (Alex Senkow of Defining Eve) to reach his physical activity goals. She began working with Doug out of his office at Doug's Place Collision. Doug was determined to find a way to keep commited to a daily exercise routine.
Because Doug is so busy he spends the vast majority of his day at his workplace and therefore his biggest obstacle was simply getting to the gym; or more simply - getting out of his office. It was a logical progression to furnish Doug's office with the equipment necessary to facilitate an exercise routine. After discussing various options Doug and Alex came to the conclusion that he would need to bring both cardio and weight training equipment into his workplace in order to keep consistent. Doug purchased an elliptical crosstrainer (which Doug now uses on a daily basis) as well as a set of modifiable dumbells which can be used in increments ranging from 5 to 40 Lbs.
Doug is now exercising consistently by doing 15 to 20 minutes daily on the elliptical crosstrainer and regularily performing the weight routine which Alex helped develop for Doug during their sessions together.
Doug's insights
Doug shares that the BENEFITS he has experienced from his new exercise routine are more energy, weight loss, improved muscle tone, and less tension in throughout his neck and shoulders.
The CHALLENGE he regularily faces is that he has an extremely busy schedule and sometimes he finds it difficult to fit exercise over the course of the day. Doug has shown the ability to overcome this challenge by conpleting his cardiovascular exercise daily which means that sometimes his workout is left to the end of the day before he goes home. Doug feels that by purchasing a crosstrainer for his office he has overcome a significant OBSTACLE. He is happy that he can get a workout in the time it would take him to travel to a fitness facility.
OFFICE INITIATIVES: Doug has offered his staff members the opportunity to use his crosstrainer whenever possible. Some of his employees have expressed interest.
Doug's SUPPORTERS are his wife, and his personal trainer, Alex (Fitness and Personal Trainer for Defining Eve Inc.).
Doug's main GOAL is to reach his target weight of 240 lbs and continue building his cardiovascular endurance by using the crosstrainer.
Doug offers INSIGHT for other adults: "If you can stay committed and exercise consistently you can certainly see results and reap the benefits. It's a matter of finding a window of opportunity in which to do it."
Alex’s INSIGHT is: "The role of a personal trainer is not merely to show people how to exercise in order to achieve their fitness goals. More often than not a trainer's role is to give clients the tools necessary to facilitate a consistent exercise routine. The tools needed vary from individiual to individual. Some people require direction, others require motivation, and others require time management advice so that they can fit regular workouts into their schedule. A good personal trainer can intepret their clients needs and deliver exercise recommendations which will help them achieve the goals they have set."
Keep up the great work Doug and thanks Alex Senkow for being a very valuable resource on behalf of Active Edmonton!
