Kristy Brownlee - Beat your beau in the gym
Punch the one you love.
No seriously.
An Edmonton gym is offering a way to get rid of pent-up agression by taking swings at one's lover in a workout class geared for couples.
"Sometimes people won't make working out a priority because they want to spend time with their partner,” said Alex Senkow, managing director of Defining Eve, an Edmonton personal training studio.
She said the new classes let people spend quality time with their boyfriends or girlfriends and drop a few pounds in the process.
Some might think it would be embarrassing to sweat and cry in front of their beaus in the boxing ring, on the Pilates mat or in a spin class.
But Senkow believes otherwise. “Your partner is likely to be more encouraging than anyone else in your life because they want to see you succeed.”
The exercise classes are great for the infamous 10-pound marital weight gain, she said.
“They get ‘comfortable’ with their partner. It’s so common. So why not spend time on a spin bike or doing partner Pilates or even personal training together?”
Defining Eve offers co-ed boxing classes called Punch the One You Love, Eve ‘n’ Steven Pilates, and Spin for All, for both couples and families.
“Couples boxing is popular. People love to have the opportunity to hit each other.”
So maybe exercise doesn’t have to be a redundant, solo routine anymore.
“Rather than thinking of exercise as something you do alone, it’s something you can do with your friends and family,” said Senkow.
Classes are 50 minutes each Sunday and cost $99 for five weeks.
