Success Story: Amanda
Throughout high school I was very active. I swam competitively and played field hockey. In University I lifted weights, ran regularly and used the elliptical trainer several times a week. When I finished school and began working as a teacher, my exercise program fell into a rut. I wasn’t seeing results even though I continued to exercise 4 or 5 times each week.
The lack of results was what prompted me to hire a trainer and later sign up for an early morning spin class at the studio. Working out at Defining Eve has challenged me to try new things and to push myself harder than I have in the past.
For the past eight months I have been working out with my trainer once or twice a week. On my own, I do two days of core and strength work at home and 4-5 days of cardio, including running, elliptical, gauntlet, skipping, and spinning. I love seeing the improvements in my body as well as my fitness level, and welcome the positive comments that I have been receiving from my friends and colleagues.
Today, I’m excited about trying new things, like spinning, pilates and kickboxing, and getting back into the pool swimming and deep water jogging. Skipping has challenged me to master new footwork and rope tricks and has been a welcome addition to my program. I exercise to relieve the stress from work, to challenge my mind and body with what I can do, and to continue to become as fit as I can be.
Defining Eve has exceeded my expectations at every turn. My trainer has gone above and beyond what I thought a personal trainer would do. She has supported me from the very beginning, motivating me to push myself harder, and coming up with tons of suggestions and answers to all of my fitness questions…. I really couldn’t ask for more. I also find the environment at Defining Eve very comfortable and supportive.
I would like to compete in a triathlon this summer; in the next few years I would like to hike the West Coast Trail, bike the Golden Triangle, climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and compete in the Masters’ Games in Sydney in 2009. I would also like to inspire my gr.3 students to be more physically active and get more of my friends and family to join me in living a more active lifestyle.
I’ve learned that trying new activities keeps your interest up and challenges your body and mind in new ways. Another insider tip- buying a heart rate monitor is one of the best fitness investments I have ever made! Being able to monitor my heart rate motivates me to push myself harder and I don’t know why I didn’t get one sooner!
