Daria's Success Story

After I got married, I really let my fitness slide. I guess I was so caught up in the excitement of a new life, that I basically put exercise on the backburner. Sometimes I would walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes and convince myself that I was satisfying the necessity to exercise. I could see that my body was changing. Clothes were fitting a little more snugly and I was just feeling like garbage. I had no energy and my self-esteem took a beating.

Now I know exactly what had happened- I had stopped challenging myself physically and became complacent in my quest for health and exercise. Culturally, food is always around me. I enjoy eating and I simply cannot resist my mother’s wonderful Ukrainian cooking. The food issue coupled with the lack of effective exercise prompted me to examine myself and make some changes.

In my life I have taken MANY exercise classes including yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, etc. I realized these were effective, but I wanted to try something different….something that would cater to me as an individual. That’s when Defining Eve came in. I heard about Defining Eve in from a colleague at work and decided to give them a call.

In June of 2005 I started working with a trainer. Though difficult at first, it gradually became easier and after a few short months I couldn’t believe what started happening!! The results have been phenomenal. I am leaner, fitter and have way more energy.

Now, in addition to two sessions a week with my trainer, I have started attending Defining Eve’s Bridal Boot Camp class on Saturday mornings (even though I am not really a bride). I firmly believe that exercising in a group motivates and have come to depend on this Saturday class as a crucial part of my regime. Time permitting; I try to exercise on my own 2 more times per week. I will either walk my Labradoodle or run on my treadmill at home.

Having a trainer has played a critical role in helping me to achieve success. I see my trainer when it is convenient for me. And once it becomes part of a routine….something that you have to do…..an exercise regime will reap rewards. Also, having a personal trainer allows you the opportunity to have someone focused solely on you. With eyes on you all the time, you can be certain that you are performing the exercises properly and correctly. A personal trainer will never let you take the easy road out. For example, if I were to endeavour to do 15 push-ups on my own, I would probably stop at 10. Those last 5 push-ups are a killer and I would probably justify stopping before finishing the set in its entirety. Believe me this never happens in my sessions. You are forced to see an activity through to completion. And that is how results are realized.

My long-term fitness goals include continuously challenge myself. I’d love to start mountain biking more, running more, and doing some “extreme” vacations every now and then.

I have learned the importance of courage, willingness to try new things, commitment, determination and persistence. I have learned that exercise is a priority and that I must engage in it to be healthy. I have also learned how easy it has become to incorporate exercise into a lifestyle. Defining Eve does not allow excuses. They want you to succeed.
