Success Story: Sandy & Laura

Sandy & Laura's Success Story

Sandy

Six months ago my daughter Laura and I started partner training twice a week and taking a Pilates class once a week at the Garneau studio. I have always done cardio (running/walking/aerobics) but stopped when I started to experience impact-related discomfort. I felt that the best approach to a new fitness program would to be to work with a personal trainer and it has proven to be very effective for both of us!

Our personal trainer has encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone, and as a result have learned that I do have some strengths! Meanwhile she identified my areas of weakness, and prescribed specific exercises to target them. As a result, I have achieved many of my personal goals – increased strength and endurance, flexibility and balance. My experience of working with a personal trainer has been very satisfying, and the consistent improvements in my health and fitness have been very rewarding.

I had originally started running to lose weight, but repeated injuries had me looking for a more suitable exercise alternative. When my mom and I started to work together with a personal trainer, I soon began to realize the benefits of a customized program and individualized attention: the ability to push myself without the risk of injury, improved cardio, strength, and best of all, weight loss results!

My measurements have gone down about 4 inches off my waist and hips (just over 4 dress sizes!!), and I've lost ~30 pounds since I started my program six months ago. As far as strength/ability goes, I went from sitting uncomfortably on the ball with my feet on the floor- all the way to the other extreme:  jumping onto the stability ball (although it is still very challenging). The first time I did ball roll outs, I could do three, and now I do sets of 15 or so.  It's incredible what I can do now! My posture has improved SO MUCH! And I can climb numerous flights of stairs without even thinking about it, when before I would be out of breath three flights up!  I can finally see some muscle tone for the first time in my life!

Don’t give up when trying new exercises, even if they feel impossible at first. You CAN do it, so don’t give up before you try. Keep a positive attitude! You will be able to do anything... eventually!
