Success Story: Syma
In the beginning I was like most other women - I have tried all the diets, I have done all the videos, and we even have a treadmill at home. I wasn’t seeing results with anything I was doing and getting very frustrated so I decided to start an exercise program with Defining Eve it was the best decision I ever made! I didn’t want to be one of those moms who can’t keep up with their kids or the mom that wants to stay covered up at the beach, for fear of people seeing them in a bathing suit. I wanted to be a fit, healthy woman who feels good about herself! Also, the fact that someone was coming to my house meant that I HAD to get out of bed to let her in!
In May 2004 I started working one-on-one with a personal trainer, who came to my home three days a week. After about a year, she came twice a week and three days when I felt that I really needed her support.
Now, I am motivated to do more on my own; I get on the treadmill 3 4 times a week, both jogging and walking (if someone told me a year ago that I would be jogging I would never have believed them) and lifting weights. I love working with a trainer because I always joke that "I would never do to myself what my trainer makes me do"!! I love being in competition with myself to work myself hard and see the results! I was very athletic as a teenager and when you get married, start working, have a family; it is so easy for your fitness to take a backseat, putting others before you.
The fact that I am getting more fit, losing weight and buying smaller sizes keeps me motivated. I also enjoy working out now (who would’ve thought!!) and look forward to the workouts with my trainer.
There is NO way I would be where I am today (size 14 from an 18/20 and 25 pounds lighter) if it wasn’t for calling Defining Eve and getting a trainer to come work with me. I always say this as a joke, but the first thing to go was my "back fat"… the fat that hangs underneath your bra! Seriously - I know for a fact that without a trainer pushing me to achieve success, I would not have the same success with the videos I had. It helps to be accountable to someone other than yourself. I have to also say that I am convinced that taking the Rise and Shine class made me go from a size 16 to a 14 in 5 weeks I am sure of it!
My long term goals are to lose another 20 25 lbs and/or to be a size 10, and this is a little longer term fitness goal, but a very important one to me -- to eventually wear a string bikini on the beach in Waikiki, Hawaii (I wore a one piece with a skirt last year this year, it’s a two piece with a skirt and in two years, I am wearing the tiniest bikini I can find)!! I also want a 4-pack stomach, to be able to jog longer than 10 minutes at a time, and to be a great role model to our son and my husband and to women in general. I also want to take more spin classes.
I have learned that it takes hard work and dedication to achieve a success, but isn’t that true in life? If you want something you have to work for it. As well, when you set goals and achieve them, it pours into other aspects of your life. You want to be best at every activity and give it your all at least for me.
I also want to add something very important as women, we are able to do so much. We juggle working, families and everything else and a lot of us put ourselves last on the list. Make time for yourself. I have found that one hour goes by so quickly and there is so much benefit for getting fit and getting your exercise in and eating healthy (I also enjoy foods that aren’t so healthy, but make sure that I keep track of these treats)! Take the time for yourself and once a day put yourself first I guarantee that you will feel as amazing and healthy as I do. I am 40 now and I feel 25!
