Success Story: Whitney

Amanda's Success Story

Before I started taking classes at Defining Eve I had never worked out. Not even once. I didn’t jog. I didn’t lift weights. I didn’t play sports. When I was in high school I usually sat out in gym class, opting to get a note from my mom so that I could read a magazine or book instead. I was completely and utterly unmotivated to exercise, because I had no idea how great it would make me feel.

When I got out of high school, I entered post secondary. In the summer I got an office reception job. I would sit all day, and I lost even more motivation.  Why would I want to exercise? It seemed so boring; I didn’t even like walking to my car. I know that makes me sound like about the laziest person on the planet, but it’s true. I had no energy and was completely wiped out at the end of the day. That shouldn’t be happening when you are only in your early twenties.

In May of 2006, I signed up for a Defining Eve Pilates class in my local community center with my mom. I wanted to spend time with my mom, more than I wanted to exercise, that’s for sure.

Initially, I was nervous. I had gotten into such a rut that I could not imagine walking around the block, let alone taking an hour-long class. But the Pilates class was definitely the right introduction for me to exercise. It was challenging, but gentle, and I could see the improvements that I was making week-by-week.

Six weeks after I started the Pilates class with Defining Eve, I decided to take their Boxing Boot Camp. My instructor had just delivered a baby the previous week, but she could out-skip, out-train and out-box any of us (even with one hand tied behind her back I’m sure).  She was fit, but I wasn’t intimidated by her, I was inspired. She was very focused on all of us in our class, pushing us to do our best, and congratulating us on the smallest improvements.

I won’t lie to you, that first boxing class was brutal. But going to Defining Eve really motivated me. For the first time in my life I was rising up to physical challenges rather than looking for the easy way out.

My waist become more slender. I felt my muscles getting stronger. I felt my stamina increasing. I feel like a success. And the great team at Defining Eve reaffirmed that when I was asked to be a model for their new website. Of course I said yes!

I love Defining Eve. I love everything about it. It’s pretty. The trainers are all really friendly and if I ever feel less-than-motivated to exercise, I just visit the Defining Eve website, where I have a lasting reminder of how much I love to exercise!
